My Pattern Cutting.

I haven't actually done any pattern cutting before so I was a little worried about what design was going to be passed on to me, however on the other side I wanted a design that was going to push me enough so I would have to learn plenty as I was going a long.

This is the design I was given to draw a pattern from on our first pattern cutting lesson:

The strips going down the dress are channel seams.
I began the process by first copying the block pattern before going on to try and develop it into the design in front of me. The first this I didn't realise was that you are meant to keep a original base at all times that shows all the steps you have gone through to get to the current pattern.

It was then decided as the channel seams were to be the main element to the garment and that they should be a good size such as 1cm wide. This meant I had to work out how to allow for this in my pattern.

Once I had worked it out for the front, it was quite simple to follow the same concept for the back of the dress. How ever I still at this point wasn't sure weather I had got rid of the darts correctly.

I felt I needed to make it up in calico to get a full understanding of where the darts should be as it was hard to visualise on paper.
